Islamophobia: government ties hands of working group

The “Labour” government set up a working group to look into Islamophobia; so far so good. However, they barred the group from consulting with the Muslim Council of Britain, the largest Muslim Umbrella Group or the Centre For Media Monitoring but the group was free to consult with people who had been accused of Islamophobia and the Community Security Trust.
So the Muslim Council of Britain and others are it seems “the wrong sort of Muslims” (as we are “the wrong sort of Jews” and certainly have no seat at the table of, eg the APPG on British Jews, serviced by the Board of Deputies – but I digress). There is much more to be concerned about with this working group, the main task for which is to agree a definition of Islamophobia. Well we know how that went with the so called definition of antisemitism….

Today’s “Guardian” reports nearly 60 Labour MPs have openly demanded the government do everything they can to stop Israel’s “Final Solution” for the Palestinians in Rafah. They demand the UK immediately recognises the State of Palestine.
The “Guardian” lists these MPs’ names here: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/jul/12/labour-mps-call-uk-immediately-recognise-palestinian-state Many are well-known and well-respected. Their email addresses are listed on Parliament’s web site.
I shall try to email each MP, attaching the open letter in which Israeli lawyers (all experts in the international laws on warfare) WARN Israel’s ministers and the IDF this scheme is criminal. If they go ahead with it – or order anyone else to – they and any “helpers” take on lifetime risks of prosecution in legal jurisdictions around the world. Any order the IDF gives to soldiers to assist with this scheme is illegal and invalid.
I hope other JVL members will want to voice their own support to these MPs.
I’m not sure what the problem is. When the Israeli government and its Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli organised a conference on fighting antisemitism in March of this year quite naturally they invited as many anti-Semites as they could find in Europe and elsewhere.
After all if you are going to hold a conference on anti-Semitism who better to invite than anti-Semites, who are obviously experts in the field.
So naturally when Starmer ‘Labour’ set up a working group on Islamaphobia it made sense to take advice from Islamaphobes like Trevor Philips and the Bored of Deputies, who for the same reason, are experts in the field.
Equally it made sense not to indulge the grievance culture by inviting the MCB since they are opposed to Islamaphobia which isn’t the purpose of the Working Group.
I’m sorry but I can’t see anything wrong here. It would have been like Chikli inviting a group of Jewish anti-Zionists to his conference.
Angela Rayner is to be congratulated on making sure that Muslims didn’t get a look in unless they too had the right attitude to all of this.
I’m gasping and can barely believe it, even by standards of this government. Utterly surreal.
