Columbia Law Review board of directors overrides the editors

JVL Introduction

An academic article, prepared over eight months and after extraordinary editorial scrutiny, was posted by its editorial board – only for the board of directors to close down the entire website when the editors refused to pull the article.

It follows a similar censorship of the Palestinian legal scholar and human rights lawyer, Rabea Eghbariah, by the Harvard Law Review last year.

The crime: an argument for establishing that Nakba “stands as a distinct framework that can be understood as its own crime with a distinctive historical analytical foundation structure and purpose”

Perhaps the author is wrong? But then publish and allow debate and refutations. Isn’t that what universities are for?

Perhaps even raising the idea of the Nakba as its own crime is perceived as likely to upset influential Columbia donors?
