Charlotte Church’s powerful response to the hate she received

JVL Introduction

Charlotte Church has been subject to criticism, false allegations and even threats after she dared to use the power of song to raise awareness of and funds for health care in Palestine; dared to speak out for justice for Palestinians; dared to speak out for a ceasefire. She also dared to use the slogan “from the river to the sea” as though the allegation that this is an antisemitic slogan was a proven fact, and so anything else that she had said or done was deemed irrelevant.  Sadly a scenario which is all too familiar.

As we noted before. the event venue is now ludicrously under investigation by the Charity Commission (as indeed is the Campaign Against Antisemitism which is behind many of the allegations that are made, although we do not hear much about that)

Charlotte has responded with this powerful and political as well as loving post, which we are pleased to publish.

  • Wow. A tremendous compassionate response from Charlotte. Another voice for peace. I assume the BBC will read it out in full. The articles that JVL keep posting are furthering the cause of peace and tolerance. I do feel you should change ur name to Jewish Voice For Peace. This is meant as a compliment but would make it easier to get out to mainstream media. Shalom.

  • Beautiful Charlotte, you comfort the disturbed but disturb those comfortable politicians in their ivory towers!

  • Charlotte, you are a brave woman to speak up for what should not need to be acknowledged as a brave act, the right for all people to live equal with and without fear of other people.

  • An amazing repost to the many politicians, governments, newspaper editors, and journalists who display not just irresponsibility, but also a distinct lack of the nuances required when making judgements and pronouncements. What worries me, as an ex-Labour councillor, is the observable drift away from any core semblance of political integrity and ethics. Both journalism and politics has, by-and-large, degenerated into a theatrical gaming activity, the prizes pursued being personal status, power accretion and the preservation of career. I have long given up on The Guardian and the BBC as balanced and objective media outlets. The lines between reporting and personal spin have been blurred to the point almost of invisibility. Am I exaggerating ? Perhaps, but sadly I think not.
So, thank you Charlotte for standing firm. We need a radical change in the culture of our politics, and this can only come about through the ‘noise’ of protest and persistent argument.

  • Coherent, insightful truth, how different to the casual, lazy garbage on the media and the spiteful mendacity of bought and sold politicians.

  • Here! Here! A wonderful and moving piece by Charlotte. She puts to shame those who are complicit in the murder of the Palestinians and those who attempt to silence the voices of peace.

  • Thank you for publishing this JVL – and all respect to Charlotte Church.

Similar to the vile rhetoric directed at Charlotte, we have seen this week the absolutely appalling comments regarding Diane Abbott, from a Tory Government donor. A government which is doing its best to clamp down on peaceful protest, indeed any protest whatsoever, and who clearly think ‘free speech’ only works one way. Hestor’s remarks surely constitutes racist and hate speech let alone threatening violence, and as such are a criminal offence? And the Government has the nerve to talk about ‘extremism’ whilst tolerating the likes (and money in this case) of Hestor, Steven Yaxley-Lennon, et al!

There certainly seemed nothing to celebrate on ‘International Women’s Day’ this year for sure!

  • Charlotte is superb. Charlotte writes so well. Thank you Charlotte (and JVL).

Charlotte is far more intelligent, balanced and brave than anything from the establishment media, the awful establishment politicians and the shallow (but also opportunist and spiteful) fools who try to talk down about her.

  • Beautifully put. I hope the threats you’ve received won’t stop you singing for freedom and empowerment of all oppressed people, everywhere. Thanks, Charlotte.

  • Dearest Charlotte Church, thank you for standing up to the oppressors who destroy Palestinian lives and who attack those who call for an end to the massacre. You were wonderful and inspiring at the Mothers’ Day march, bringing the people together in song. Stay strong. Love and Peace, Carmel 😊
