Antisemitism in the US is not a bipartisan problem

JVL Introduction

Peter Beinart prefaces his video talk this week with an apology for talking about antisemitism – again. For him it has become so clear that it is generally talked about to prevent thinking about the realities for Palestinians on the ground.

But he does so to report on a new, highly significant, study of antisemitism in the United States.

Why significant? Because it challenges – and dismantles – the article of faith of American politicians and Jewish leaders that antisemitism in the United States is a bipartisan plague.

“[I]t shows that that’s just total nonsense… The antisemitism is dramatically higher among conservatives than it is among American progressives…”

Antisemitism in the US is not a bipartisan problem

  • Very interesting. I hope a lot of people read this article, the constant weaponisation of antisemitism to silence critics of Zionism & Israel is such an insult to the MILLIONS of Jews who suffered REAL antisemitism through History.
It’s also being used to further Far Right politics in US & UK. Currently Starmer has hijacked the left wing socialist Labour Party and is expelling the LEFT inc Jews using the antisemitism smear.
I do think antisemitism is a different type of racism because it goes back so many hundreds of years but to put it on a pedestal is the doing of the Rich influential right wing Jews in the US , who do on extensive research seem to be pro Zionism…horrifying are the Many non Jewish entertainers who claim support for Israel . these entertainers are held up as weapons to prove Zionism is mighty and honourable.. I now Google the people involved in films etc before I watch to see their views.. as too often a once loved entertainer has literally broken my heart when I’ve read a statement they’ve made during their career supporting Israel.. obviously ignoring the ethnic cleansing and crimes against Humanity in Palestine… I prefer to pre warned if you like BEFORE I watch anything made by these people..

  • I tried to look at the statement by the Jewish law students but found that Google had blocked it. I did manage to track down the actual address by Fatima Mohammed and there was nothing antisemitic in it. It was very critical of Israel but hardly more so than of the USA. It is an odd thing about right-wing Americans that they are more concerned about attacks on Israel than on their own country. There are many places where criticisms of the country and its government are banned but the USA seems unique in its attempts to ban criticism of a particular foreign government.

  • I found this article to be very interesting but actually not that surprising, when you compare research into antisemitism in the UK, it has always shown that there is less Racism and antisemitism on the Left and always by quite a margin.
Recent history has shown, since Corbyn was voted Leader of the Labour Party, those that support Israel use antisemitism to attack Corbyn because of his political views on the treatment of Palestinians by Israel. In fact they all came together, all Jewish groups that support Israel, the Rightwing Press and the Political Editors of the BBC, all used lies and propaganda to stop the LP led by Corbyn from becoming the Government and antisemitism was the weapon of choice. In the past 7 years, the Israeli Lobby has had massive influence on the Party, giving donations to Party MPs, even some on the Left and well known names. Starmer as we all know has used AS to shed the Party of Left Members, including Jewish Members, their common viewpoint, is their criticism of Israel and its vicious treatment of the Palestinians. No one who has been paying attention, would call Starmer either a Socialist or on the Left.
