Censorship at Scientific American

“It’s extremely ironic that the methods of BDS, a nonviolent tool used to end oppression which some claim is ‘problematic,’ are the same tools used to pressure scientific journals to violate academic freedom and allow censorship.”

Thus tweeted one of the Scientific American op-ed’s authors, Qaali Hussein, after the magazine responded with alacrity to pressure from the pro-Israel lobby to remove an article it had posted.

It sums it up, really. Those who oppose boycotts as a political tool (at least in the case of Israel!) are quite prepared to use boycotts, smears and cancel culture to silence debate.

But it is sad to see Scientific American, which has displayed an abiding concern for issues of public health over time, capitulating in this unseemly way…
