Golders Green: antisemitism is real and so is its weaponisation
JVL Introduction
Channel4’s The Four Cast took a deep dive last Thursday into the implications of the Golders Green stabbings and the calls for restricting Palestinian protest which have followed.
First, Krishnan Guru-Murthy interviewed pro-Israel journalist Hadley Freeman who suggested that slogans like “Globalise the Intifada” are directly responsible for arson and knife attacks on the streets of north London. She said her own family was not among those Jews allegedly planning to flee the UK for Israel, not because she objects to Israel commiting genocide against the Palestinian people but because she wouldn’t feel safe there after October 2023.
The second interviewee, British Israeli analyst and author Daniel Levy, brought calm and sanity to the conversation. He fully acknowledged the fear and hurt British Jews are feeling, while warning aganst creating “a false binary”. There is “not an incompatibility between Jewish safety and civil liberties,” Levy said.
We publish below a lightly edited transcript of Levy’s conversation with Guru-Murthy. It can be viewed starting from 15.30 minutes in the podcast.

‘This is what globalising the intifada looks like’ - are Jews safe in the UK?

When that American Zionist guy shot two Arab-Jewish Israelis whom he thought were Palestinian, did we consider criminalising the phrase “am yisrael chai”?
When that landlord stabbed that little Palestinian child to death, following all the fabricated atrocity porn that the US spouted, did we ban the Israeli flag?
The title of that channel 4 show alone is the corporate medias attempt to give credence to the idea that pro Palestine equals antisemitism.
If any of these journalists were serious, after acknowledging the racist nature of these attacks, they’d get politicians and NHS ceos on to grill them about the state of the health service, which is clearly the underlying issue – mentally unwell man with violent tendency left without adequate care or supervision.
There’s no topic about how people identify.
I brought my dictionary to do the identifying.
All just peace supporters ought to welcome Daniel Levy’s eloquent words.
Nonetheless, particular caveats remain
His reference to “arson attempts” needed to add the actual Hatzola ambulance fires.
And the positive mention for Progressive rabbis warranted a contrast with others.
Anglo-Jewry establishment’s failure to flay Israel’s crimes leaves a false impression.
Most Jews in Britain find Netanyahu’s brutality clashes with their Jewish values.
But the Board of Deputies suspended and censured members for critiques on him.
The Jewish Leadership Council also ducks condemnation towards the Gaza atrocities.
Moreover, apologism comes too from the community’s influential newspapers.
Ditto the Campaign Against Antisemitism.
Add the Jewish Labour Movement and Labour Friends of Israel, with Starmer.
Contrast this with Muslim organisations.
These decried the October 7 2023 carnage by Hamas and UK Jew hate violence.
Jews involved with the marches bloc must expose the Jewish establishment.
The elite’s collusion with IDF killing cannot justify, yet nonetheless fuels antisemitism.
Thank you so much for such a nuanced analysis that also feels entirely realistic
Having a birthday cake depicting a noose, as Itamar Ben Gvir did, and calling for literal violence against Palestinians is fine, but when we or our supporters protest or challenge political Zionism and imperialism, that’s apparently really secretly antisemitic.
I think we should not forget that a Moslem man was also stabbed. Should we not also be looking at the mental health aspect?
Daniel Levy’s statements are excellent.
Thank goodness for Daniel Levy (and even his dad!) — voices of sanity who also happen to have access to mainstream media.
A pity excerpts from this interview were not broadcast on the regular C4 News.
Once upon a time, channel 4 was supposed to be a radical and independent station, but in the last few years it’s become another liberal mouthpiece for imperialism.
Much like Labour, it needs to be dumped.
