Life and death under Trump’s “ceasefire”

The people of Gaza are not currently making headlines as the news channels prioritise, for example Trump’s latest threats and actions but, according to the Gaza Health Ministry at least 449 Palestinians have died and a further 1,264 others been wounded during the so called ceasefire. Others are now suffering from Hepatitis A. People need medical care but what happens when there is not enough fuel for the generators? What does it mean to be terrified by a silence? Imagine trying to cope with the needs of people after more than two years of genocidal attacks when so many facilities have been damaged and even now, desperately needed supplies are being blocked by Israel, also in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Palestinians are not only victims and they have agency but, as this writer concludes: “In Gaza, we have had to learn resilience, but today we discover that resilience can be killed by an empty fuel tank.”

I am so sorry and so ashamed of my own and our powerlessness to stop this monstrous carnage. We are trying but not succeeding (yet).
All we can do is to keep on trying – and cling onto HOPE for a better future. Peace, reparations and justice for the Palestinians. Accountability, decency and peace for the Israelis.
The last few years have shown close-up what human wickedness practised on a global scale looks like (Israel’s; America’s; and the Western nations’, including our own country’s).
I’m not forgetting Russia’s criminal invasion of Ukraine but at least “our” allies accepted that was an evil deed and tried to protect the Ukrainians and Ukraine. They’ve done almost nothing to stop Israel’s genocide and other crimes in Gaza, on the West Bank and in Jerusalem.
