Art of Gaza – a determined act of defiance and resilience
JVL Introduction
A Gaza Biennale – a heroic idea and “also a statement of intent that the biennale will be a recurring event and that Gaza and artists will still be standing in two years’ time.” It aims to also be “an artistic proof of life in the face of an attempt to strip Gaza’s Palestinians of their humanity”. The artists will need support, involvement from galleries and have creative ideas for getting their art out of Gaza as well.
From here, with the knowledge of the horrors being endured in Gaza the very perilousness of life in The Strip, this act of determination, resilience and resistance is to be supported. People are living under horrendous circumstances but they are living, they want to be thought of as dignified, educated and creative people and not only as victims, although victims of barbarity they are.
We will do our best to keep up with and support developments of this life affirming project proclaiming also “The Power of Art”.

I really hope that one day we can live together in peace, and that people like this wonderful artists, as well as sport people, theater people, writers, cinema actors, can travel free and meet with collegues from all over the world
These are very moving images. I would like to help these artists. Would it be possible to arrange an event and show the pictures electronically and fundraise for artists’ materials? We are planning different events at the Whitstable Labour Club for 2025. Just a thought.
This year’s Turner Prize winner gave a brave speech in support of the Palestinians and the group outside protesting against the Zionist funders of the show. The tableaux that won her the prize were thought-provoking and valuable, but for me no art that can be made in the west today can touch the power and furious grief of these images from Gaza.
