Growing Grapes in Gaza

JVL Introduction

Israel’s pulverisation of Gaza has almost destroyed its agricultural industry.  In June 2026, “only 3 percent of cropland in Gaza was reachable and undamaged. As so often the resilience and determination of the Palestinian people is remarkable and farmers in Gaza have been able to revive some of their vines and produce grapes again. This short video from Al Arabiya shows that they needed to dig down for more than a meter to Revive the Roots. We have used some screenshots from there and you can see the destruction in the background.

“Gaza’s grape producers have been deeply impacted by the Israeli war on Gaza, sustaining losses of over $6 million, according to Gaza’s agriculture ministry.”

Meanwhile there may be further bombs (there was an air strike on 13th August in the area where the town had been) and the vibrant society, the cafes and shops near to the farm are gone.  Everything is precarious.
