UK government lawyers say Israel is breaking international law

JVL Introduction

Is Israel in breach of international law in its war on Gaza? And is the UK similarly in breach for continuing to supply arms and support to Israel?

Information from an unexpected quarter strongly suggests so, as the Observer reveals in this report of a leaked speech by Alicia Kearns MP, Tory chair of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, on 13th March.

The British government has apparently received advice from its own lawyers stating that Israel has breached international humanitarian law in Gaza – but has not reported it, nor has it stopped arms exports.

Alicia Kearns was one of eight Tory MPs who voted against the government bill in January banning local councils from boycotting Israel on the grounds that it undermined free speech, went against international law and risked leaving the UK isolated on the global stage.

UK government lawyers say Israel is breaking international law, claims top Tory in leaked recording

Chair of foreign affairs select committee Alicia Kearns said at a Tory fundraiser that legal advice would mean the UK has to cease all arms sales to Israel without delay

  • Most importantly the UK government is under pressure to toe the US line on arms sales. The UK are merely vassals, and that lickspittle Cameron is urged to accept the charges of breaching International Law as being worth it to accrue brownie points for his master the US.
“Furthermore, despite the UN vote just days before, the Biden administration has made it clear to its allies that threatening to stop weapons supplies to Israel as leverage is off the table, at least for now. The president told a fundraising event on Thursday: “You can’t forget that Israel is in a position where its very existence is at stake.” https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/31/israel-alone-allies-fears-grow-over-conduct-and-legality-of-war-in-gaza

  • Alicia Kearns has been consistently honest, brave and engaged over Gaza, I think. She’s one of the very few MPs (of any party) who’s earned my respect.

Hoping she’s successful in her efforts …

  • Alicia the Good Conservative! She is intelligent, focussed and courageeous.

If I lived in Rutland, I would vote for Alicia Kearns as my MP. I think that I would do so anyway, simply based upon her high character (as is shown).

I would certainly vote for Alicia Kearns in preference to a Labour candidate who will have been selected by the corrupt process within the Labour Party and who, like Starmer, will be devoid of honesty or of any real usefulness.

The establishment media article published here contains the apparently obligatory line which implies that the killings began with the 7 Octobe ’23 reprisal raid into Israel, without mentioning Israeli oppression, disposession and killing of the indigenous population over the previous eighty years.
