Nominate the Grassroots 5 for NEC!

Seven campaigning left groups within the Labour Party are supporting Grassroots 5 – five candidates who will stand up for members, for party democracy and for socialist policies on the National Executive Committee.

JVL and six other left Labour Party organisations are supporting the following candidates for Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC) – the Grassroots 5, listed here in alphabetical order:

Jess Barnard

Gemma Bolton

Yasmine Dar

Mish Rahman

Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi

The Grassroots 5, including the three current left CLP reps who are standing for re-election (Yasmine Dar, Gemma Bolton and Mish Rahman), will be an excellent and inclusive team on the NEC, and a strong voice for members and for party democracy.

Here is a leaflet promoting the Grassroots 5 candidates, with their statements. (Also available on the CLPD website.) Please use it to propose nominating the Grassroots 5 at Labour Party meetings.

The deadline for CLPs to submit their nominations is noon on Friday 17th June. Voting by members will then take place between July 8 and August 5.

Announcing her candidacy on Feb 26, JVL’s media officer Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi pledged to “work with comrades to re-energise embattled grassroots members, advocating against militarism; for international solidarity with the oppressed; and for collective mobilisation in unions, CLPs and communities where resistance is building against racist threats, crumbling public services and attacks on working conditions.

“I will stand firm against proscription of left groupings; defend those unjustly accused; oppose antidemocratic actions by the leadership; and commit to open communication with members.”

  • Is this material going to Sir Keir’s office? He may not read it but it should be available to him. I would like to rejoin the LP but cannot until it regains its dignity and awareness.

  • Starmer needs to back track fully and embrace the TRUE ethics of the Labour party as it was originally concieved, and work towards the aims and objectives of the working people who were it;s life blood, or he needs to go back across the House to the Tory party and take his spiteful lying millionaires with him. Tom Watson and crew. To name a few. Labour under Starmer is completely unrepresentative and is NOT a party I shall rejoin. What is needed is a viable non profit alternative. One run and organised by honest, committed individuals. Meanwhile, good luck to The Five.
