Who is Starmer and what does he stand for?

JVL Introduction

Nobody likes Keir Starmer it seems and his unpopularity seems to have no limit.  In this new book even fierce opponents of Corbyn are highly critical.  Labour Party Conference  2025 is about to start and the polls shows diminishing support for Labour. The recent, shall we say, poor judgement by Angela Rayner over her tax situation and Starmer sacking Mandelson over his link with Epstein (most of which was known about before) and now the scandal facing Starmer’s “go to” man, McSweeney and, indeed “Labour Together” (sic) can only add to his woes.

McSweeney is, apparently, credited with winning the 2024 election – but, as we keep reminding people, this was no achievement since the level of disillusion with the Tories was palpable.  We must never forget that Starmer got fewer votes than Corbyn in 2017 and fewer than the “disastrous” defeat of 2019.
