Two years on – all has changed in Gaza – and in Israel
JVL Introduction
A voice from within Israel of the destruction of so much; how even she who anticipated the barbarity of the “response” to the attacks that day could not imagine the depths of what has happened since; how much of Gaza has been destroyed and much more that Israel has done. Noy writes about the impact in Israel and her own shock at how many support the genocide, care little if at all about Palestinians’ lives and the failure of the media.
Orly Noy writes for Local Call, which is closely associated with +972; we often publish their articles and are pleased that this time her powerful writing has made it into the mainstream UK media.
On this day (9th October) when there is a possibility of an end to the bombing and starvation but still no sign of peace or justice, Noy’s emphasis on the need to look at what Israelis have been refusing to look at is very relevant.

I’m with Orly. Even if this ceasefire sticks, it’s only the start of the job …
If any serious progress is to be made on lancing the evils within Israel and securing lasting peace in the Middle East, the peoples of the world will have to press ahead with an entirely different programme to that wanted by Trump, Netanyahu and various others. We’ll be at the start of 20 – 30 years work – which the current powers-that-be will fight all the way.
Realistically, a free, independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders has to be up and running within 5 years if it’s to happen. The energy resources and Egypt-Israel pipeline within Palestine’s territorial waters mean Israel and Egypt (and probably Trump) have vested interests in blocking that. Statehood has to be achieved while the global support for Palestine is still fierce and engaged.
Parallel to this has to be a global effort to bring all the perpetrators of genocide to account, with trials taking place simultaneously in many different nations as well as in ICC and ICJ. There can be no peace without justice to the victims and the rebuilding of global (and Israeli) belief in the strength of international law.
