The Green Party and Gaza
JVL Introduction
The Green Party of England and Wales has consistently spoken up against the war on Gaza from the very beginning, unlike, to its shame, the Labour Party and we are pleased to share this information.
This article by Carla Denyer, co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, was written in advance of the parliamentary (non-)debate on the SNP’s ceasefire motion in February.
We also post an interview on LBC with Deputy Leader of the Greens, Zack Polanski, who is Jewish.
In it he is outspoken about the nonsense of claiming London is a no-go area for Jews, of the need for an immediate ceasefire, on support for the Palestinian people and more.

War on Gaza: As Greens we demand a ceasefire, no more arms to Israel and a boycott
With another ceasefire vote in Parliament this week, the Conservatives and Labour will once again be seen as complicit in Israel’s mass killing if they do not support it

“I’m a pro-European Jew – it’s increasingly clear that’s two reasons I couldn’t vote for Labour under Jeremy Corbyn.”
Zack Polanski, deputy leader of the Green Party, twitter 25/3/2018
“Corbyn could do all the PR he wants, but he was a terrible local MP and anti Semitic. Not saying @BorisJohnson is better, just we need better MPs all round.”
Chesca Walton, Green Party PPC for Hackney, twitter 23/5/20
“Jewish bodies spent 2.5 years trying to work with Corbyn to tackle growing antisemitism in the party. They only went public when they realised he wasn’t going to do anything.”
Elise Benjamin, Green Party International Co-ordinator, twitter 26/6/2023
Benjamin has a long track record of slinging mud at Corbyn. I wrote to a friend of mine who is a senior Green complaining about her downright lies in 2022. His response was “what do you expect, she’s a politician, her job is to attack other parties.”
The Greens need to be taken with a healthy pinch of salt: we know they are all against sin but some are angels and some are snakes in the grass. Salvation does not lie in that direction although I would be happy to support those Green candidates I trust – a mere handful as it stands.
Puts Labour to shame.
This is a good article showing the Green Party as a progressive force on Palestine and Carla Denyer and Zac Polanski as potential allies for JVL. The Green Party first called for a ceasefire on October 9th 2023, recognising the scale of the slaughter already evident. It now demands an end to arms sales and widening support for BDS. The article does not mention incitement to genocide and the investigation called for by the ICJ into evidence of genocide in action or to apartheid promulgated by the Israeli state or the new Nakba in Gaza. However it contrasts markedly with the Labour and Tory party positions and their complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Thanks for that information Ieuan. The only thing I’d come across before in relation to antisemitism and the Green Party, was that a majority of members voted against adopting the IHRA definition, which was good to hear. And I have little doubt that most GP members realised early on that the A/S thing against Jeremy (and Ken and Chris and Jackie et al) and left-wing members in general was a deep state black op smear campaign. I wonder if the three people you cite above ever ask themselves why it is that none of the groups and organisations and individuals accusing Jeremy of antisemitism – and some calling him an antisemite – ever reported him to the police?!
Do they believe all the atrocity claims made about Hamas – ie the forty beheaded babies and rape and mutilation etc, etc – most of which has either been debunked or is evidence-free? Perhaps they should read this excellent article by Jonathan Cook and wake up and smell the herbal tea:
How the Western media helped build the case for genocide in Gaza
From obscuring the West’s role in starving Gaza to sensationalised accounts of mass rape by Hamas, journalists are playing the role of propagandists, not reporters
https://www.jonathan-cook.net/2024-03-20/media-genocide-gaza/
No criticism of Jonathan intended, but they are not ‘playing’ the roll of propagandists, they ARE propagandists….. propagandists playing the roll of being journalists, and collectively deceiving and duping and manipulating millions of people. Come to think of it, THAT is exactly what Caitlin Johnson posted about yesterday:
Without Extensive Narrative Manipulation, None Of This Would Be Consented To

PS I was a GP member prior to 2016 (when I then joined the LP to vote for Jeremy in the second leadership election).
Maybe the majority of Green members voted against the IHRA definition at one point – but the leadership then went ahead and adopted it anyway as party policy.
