The imposition of a shortlist in Wakefield that excluded any local contender is a further sign of the imposition of authoritarian control at the heart the Labour Party.

In Hartlepool, in North Shropshire and now in Wakefield, left-wingers aren’t let near any parliamentary seats, winnable or not.

How much longer can this hollowing out of Labour Party democracy continue?

And what does it presage should Starmer ever be elected Prime Minister – the exact same high-handed and authoritarian approach to government?
