Sarah Wilkinson in her own words

JVL introduction

According to Linda Prentz-Gunter writing in the Morning Star, Sarah Wilkinson “is arguably Britain’s most dedicated and prolific online chronicler of the plight of Palestinians, posting graphic and horrifying evidence of Israel’s atrocities in Gaza multiple times a day on her social media platforms. But last Thursday at dawn, British counter-terrorism authorities decided to silence her.”

Like Grayzone journalist Richard Medhurst, detained on August 15 at Heathrow Airport, Wilkinson has been released on bail but could face as much as 14 years in jail under the 2000 Terrorism Act.

Craig Murray, in a piece headlined The End of Western Pluralist Democracy, described Sarah Wilkinson’s experience as “scarcely believable. Armed counter-terrorism police wearing balaclavas were used against a peaceful, female journalist. She was manhandled and physically hurt. The ashes in her mother’s funerary urn were desecrated in a ‘search’. ”

In the YouTube video below, Sarah speaks to Crispin Flintoff about the “extraordinarily malicious looting” she experienced. The result has been that she is effectively under house arrest, because, she says, “I’m pro-Palestinian, I’m broadcasting news from Gaza, I’m connected with the people in Gaza. It’s purely to silence journalists, as they did with Richie Medhurst and Craig Murray as well, who are reporting on a genocide.”

  • After watching this we should be under no illusions about the state of our democracy. It has been terminated. We are Through The Looking Glass here and heaven knows where it will end. I never seriously considered emigrating until now. Britain is done for if someone doesn’t stop them.

  • Simply horrendous, terrifying, chilling and surely unacceptable even still in this country. As Sarah said, ‘Slide into fascism.’ Is that where we’re heading now? There MUST be questions in parliament. Once upon a time the Guardian would have taken this up, not sure now. Is there a fund being set up simply to help her with her immediate personal and medical needs to help make up the money loss? As she says, it sounds more like a terrorist raid than a police investigation. What happened habeas corpus? Due process? Also the matter of a punishment before even any evidence of guilt. Like something out of Alice Through the Looking Glass or Kafka. Certainly one message is — intimidation. And for me as much as anything it’s not even primarily about Palestinians as Palestinians, it’s about the sheer inhuman mistreatment of people as people. In that my view is, oddly perhaps, similar to that of the late Yeshayahu Leibowitz, whose criticism of his government was not out of any particular fondness or caring for Palestinians, it was that (as I remember it) that Jews should not be doing what they were doing to anyone, Palestinian or otherwise.

  • Why have the Wilkinson and Medhurst arrests been ignored by MSM? I’d have thought they would be gloating, which makes me wonder if Starmer slapped a D Notice.

  • Just goes to show you that the fascist, racist, genocidal maniacs aren’t just in Israel. If you are still staying silent because you think that the massacre of innocent Palestinians doesn’t affect you, think again! This is absolutely disgusting. This poor, brave woman is not allowed to travel or use a phone? ..has been brutally attacked by hooded thugs. I wonder who trained them? This is ‘actual’ terrorism. Coming soon to a town near you.

  • The truth really hurts and hits hard. It reveals the evil of these creatures devoid of normal emotions who are governing us around the globe. Power and greed is all that they feed on…pure Skesis they are!!. We who question them are an annoyance, in the way and threatening to their exclusive existance. That’s why people like Sarah Wilkinson, Richard Medhurst, Julian Assange and many others we don’t even hear about are being silenced, because they are reveling their true colours. I still cannot believe that we are living through these nightmare times when off they all go [our leaders] to the Cenotaph every Armisitce Day with fake tears whilst they are complicit in this Genoocide live streamed to the world…it really is despicable.
Still we are the lucky ones as Sarah said. We are not Palestinian, we are not being bombed and treated worse than animals like these poor people are in Gaza and the West Bank…daily! Yet we must remember also. We are in our millions, these awful ‘men [and women] in suits’ are but a few upon this earth, so really, we should in theory be able to turn the tide if we are able to become a cohesive strength of unity. x

  • This is supposedly a country of free speech. This poor woman has been slandered and defamed by a gang of government thugs wearing masks.
If free speech has been banned in this country please show us how this has happened. What acts of parliament have been brought in to quieten the citizenship of this once great country?
There will be serious repercussions over this illegal and cowardly action.

  • If this doesn’t scare you – IT SHOULD.
Thank you to all of the journalists reporting on Gaza, the atrocities of the IDF & hopefully their material will be used as guidance for investigation & where appropriate prosecution in the International Courts. We are at the crossroads & need to ensure that all nations are seen to be subject to International Law ALWAYS, & not just when politically convenient to them. I will do all I can to support investigation & where appropriate prosecution of any of our complicit politicians.

  • Dear JVL, thank you for publishing this very disturbing story. Why is this story so invisible? This is a logical outcome of the direction in which the governing classes in the UK and much of the media is working. Silencing opposition to the killing & destruction in occupied Palestine.

  • I do not support terrorism or genocide and suggest that not only Hamas but also the IDF be proscribed as terrorist organisations and anyone supporting the IDF or the Israeli policy of genocide be arrested both under the Terrorism Act AND The Genocide Act.

  • Thanks JVL for further distributing this interview with Sarah W. It should giver everyone in this country pause for thought. And now, whilst continuing to be aware of what the state is doing to silence us, we must further support the struggle against genocide in Palestine.

  • She was treated very badly indeed. Those who arrested her and abused her need to be prosecuted and all charges against this brave lady dropped.

  • Thank you for this. I’m one of many thousands of Jews, both in Israel and across the world, who are vehemently opposed to the Israeli government and its appalling actions. We support the rights of the Palestinian people and are fully aware that genocide is being perpetrated. Discovering what has happened to Sarah Wilkinson – what she has been put through and what she is still experiencing – has made me realise that we are living under a political system that merely pretends to be a democracy.
