Palestinians who guarded a Yeshiva face eviction

It seems nothing can be allowed to get in the way of ethnically cleansing Jerusalem of Palestinians.  Certainly not humanitarian concerns, nor international law, not common law, nor due process, not common decency, nor property laws or even recognising a direct service to Jews in Jerusalem.

“Mufid Basha was born in the Old City in 1950 in the same home where he still resides…His father, Muhammad Basha, served as the guard of the Torat Chaim Yeshiva, which operated in two buildings in the Old City in the early 20th century.” He protected the Yeshiva from attack in the antizionist riots of 1929  and he guarded the building and its contents throughout the years of Jordanian control.  Now the family are faced with eviction, not immediately which was the case when the article was written but postponed three days after this article was written by Israel’s Supreme Court until May 26th 2026.  Even if it is postponed again after that date, the family would still be living with uncertainty and immense stress; that this seems the best that can be hoped illustrates how Israel wants to make Palestinian presence as precarious as possible. We have seen the accelerating evictions from many Silwan neighbourhoods as well as sever restrictions on movement, eg from Shu’fat Refugee Camp and much more.

This story is poignant but all too illustrative of how Palestinians do not count as full human beings to the Israeli regime.
