Racist assaults on Palestinians normalised in Jerusalem
JVL Introduction
A powerful Haaretz editorial on the deep rot that pervades Israeli society.
Violent assaults on Palestinian bus drivers – full citizens of Israel remember in “the Middle-East’s only democracy” – have increased sharply in recent months.
Under the current government, says Haaretz “daily hate crimes in the capital have been completely normalized. The police’s indifference to the settlers’ hate crimes and terror in the West Bank has spread to Jerusalem.”
The editorial calls for the authorities to treat racist assaults on bus drivers the way they do terror attacks.
But it clearly has no expectations that anything will be done.
