Palestine is the genocide that we as Jewish people can halt

JVL Introduction

A “letter of love and rage”, a heartfelt cry for peace and solidarity with the Palestinian cause by Amanda Gelender, someone who grew up in a progressive American Jewish community for whom celebrating and supporting Israel was an essential part of being Jewish.

She describes the disbelief she felt when she first started to learn the realities of Israel’s history, so different from the lies, distortions evasions and absences she had been brought up with.

This is an appeal for others to join her journey. Otherwise, “With our silence, Jewish people globally are co-signing this genocide.”

It doesn’t have to be like this.

Palestine is the genocide that we as Jewish people can halt

We cannot allow the moral soul of Judaism to perish with our collective silence on Israel’s genocidal war on Palestinians in Gaza

  • This post by Amander Gelender was a pleasure to read. I have many Jewish friends but none of them are Zionists. Therefore I have often wondered how much Jews from within the Zionist bubble know about the founding of Israel and why many of us, including some Jews, refer to Israel as a terrorist State. From what Amanda says, it is apparent that a massive programme of education is required, both in the UK and in the USA to inform Jews and the general public that Zionism has infiltrated and corrupted Judaism.

  • “When I first came to learn about the extent of Israel’s ongoing brutality against the Palestinian people, I struggled to believe it. My Jewish elders taught me about justice, human rights and the Jewish moral mandate to cultivate social change and “repair the world” (tikkun olam).”
This is such a welcome opinion from a Jewish person for whom the scales have fallen from their eyes. It’s also testament to the power of Jewish propaganda, a relentless process which has been honed over the decades, such that for a Jewish US citizen the penny has only just dropped. The truly devastating mass murder during the holocaust visited upon Jews (but not only Jews) during WW2 has promoted paranoia in Israel’s leaders, sufficient to justify, courtesy of propaganda, razing Gaza to the ground and wiping out all its people. The big difference between the reality of the threat by Hamas and that by the IDF is that the IDF is capable of truly being that existential threat to Gazans. And may not stop there. Bibi’s matter-of-fact announcement, made many times, that the ‘operation’ will continue to completion once the ‘humanitarian’ pauses come to an end, is chilling in the extreme. But then, it’s made by someone who is avoiding jail for so long as the bombing continues.

  • It’s important to use the Zionist propaganda against them, you were taught Jewish people could not commit Genocide, therefore those guilty of these atrocities can not be Jewish
The right to Self Defence applies to everyone, if Israel is acting in Self Defence then so was Hamas on the 7th October
Whatever language used to describe Hamas and Palestinians should be multiplied 14 x and counting to Israel
Search for the truth about 7th October, exactly what did the IDF do to its own citizens, then hold them all responsible, from Netanyahu down
Go the whole hog, you cannot be a Zionist and a Jew, It’s time to choose what’s most important to you, your humanity or your ideology

  • A permanent ceasefire announcement now just might save Netanyahu and the Israeli government from permanent accusations of genocide directed at the wiping out of all Palestinians from Israel. The totally inaccurate labelling of Hamas as a terrorist organisation, which it patently isn’t, should be corrected now, so it can be seated, along with representatives of the West Bank, the ‘quartet’, the surrounding Arab nations and Israel, around the table, to thrash out, once and for all, a peaceful solution to this seemingly intractably, brutally persistent problem. As Shakespeare (Brutus) said:-
There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood leads on to fortune-
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries….
    Ceasefire NOW!

  • Another lie is a Two State Solution was rejected by Palestine
Call their bluff and offer to accept the proposal(Again)
When they inevitably say Hamas must be no part of it, say what about your Coalition, name the extremiets
Give them the choice to mind their own business
