No room at the UK Inn for Gazans

The government’s double standards have been exposed again.  Rather than welcoming a humane decision by a UK Judge both Britain’s Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition have spoken out against the loophole that gave a family from Gaza the right to live in the UK under the scheme developed for Ukrainians.  Starmer is determined to close the loophole and ensure that there are no ‘floodgates’ opened.

Some in the right wing press also went on the attack against the Judge, as The Telegraph noted that the Judge’s father is a former Guardian journalist who “campaigns against Israel online”. For example; he endorsed a petition calling for Haringey council to “stop supporting genocide in Palestine”: urged people to write to their MPs demanding that the Government “recognise Palestine” without negotiations,”  and he reposted a video of a huge banner covering Parliament Square by Led By Donkeys, the campaign group, which said: “Yes it’s a genocide”.

It seems that supporting Palestine or even just opposing the pulverisation of Gaza may mean your children are unable to make rational decisions.  While this “sins of the father” trope has been used before, notably the Mail labelling Ralph Miliband as someone who hated Britain to undermine Ed Miliband  when he was Leader of the Opposition, this seems like a new low to dehumanise Palestinians and all who refuse to do the same.
