New Tech: New Israeli terrors

Israel uses AI to “target” victims for killing and facial recognition as part of their matrix of control, most recently terrorising people in Gaza being forcibly displaced from the north. Soldiers can pull information from a database built up over the years that according to Amnesty International contains extensive information on Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, “including where they live, who their family members are, and whether they are wanted for questioning by Israeli authorities.”
Based on facial recognition, while on the terrible march, some women were told to give their children to other women, creating understandable panic. Men and women were arrested, possibly for being linked to someone they considered terrorists.
“We would walk towards the face-scanning point in utter terror in our hearts, walking between dozens of tanks and soldiers pointing their weapons at us… we would stand there for …the worst minutes of my life. A person’s fate was decided based on that scan: either arrest, beating and humiliation, or release them and force them to leave towards the south.”
“They convince us that they already know everything about us by mentioning intimate details about our lives, and then they threaten us with killing if we lie.”

Witness testimony from northern Gaza shows that Israel is using facial recognition technology to organize how it conducts mass arrests and forcible displacement. Some Palestinians say the technology is also being used to carry out field executions.

Terrifying. And this technology is going to be used worldwide soon as the climate crisis hits. Angry desperate crowds, climate refugees, all will be controlled by such technology, much of it sold by Israel. In comparison the Gestapo, the Stasi, were primitive. Each Israeli carrying out these cruel policies must somehow, to use Robert Lifton’s terminology, be in some way capable of turning himself / herself into two, as it were, different people. Lifton calls it ‘doubling’ following from Otto Rank’s study of ‘the double’ in literature.
Police or soldier at work the murdering technician, then back home to nurture kids and family just like the concentration camp operatives. Except that soon the former can leak into the latter with tragic domestic consequences. Thus has Israeli society become a wreck of trauma and free-floating aggression.
