Misleading stats claim Jews more at risk than Muslims

It’s common to hear spokespersons from the Board of Deputies and like-minded organisations claim that Jewish people across the UK are under constant threat of violent attacks such as those which occurred in Golders Green and Manchester in the past 10 months.
These arguments are frequently underpinned by statistics purporting to show that Britain’s small Jewish community is subjected to disproportionately higher levels of ethnic or religious hate than any other group, in particular Muslims.
While not in any way wanting to downplay the real fears prompted by the violence which has occurred, at a time when accusations of hate crime are being used to arrest and charge human rights defenders under terrorism legislation, we need to be clear about the real level of threat.
This blogpost by philosopher and author Stephen Law unpicks the claim made in an infographic widely circulated on social media that: “Jews are 9x more likely to suffer a hate incident than a Muslim when adjusted for population.”
Law notes that 43 percent of the “hate incidents” recorded by the Community Security Trust, on which the infographic relies, relate to Israel/Palestine and the current crisis, not Jews. CST’s statistics cannot be used to draw any reliable conclusions about the relative rates of religious hate incidents targeting individual Jews and Muslims.

The 'Disparity in Hate': misleading comparison of stats on antisemitism and Islamophobia

As Tony Lerman documented in his essay Antisemitism Redefined [Haymarket Book, Jewish Voice for Peace, 2017], in the 1990’s the Israeli state moved to take over the monitoring of statistics on anti-Semitism.
Why would Mossad, Israel’s MI6, want to take over the compiling of antisemitism statistics if not to manipulate them? Would MI6 want to take over compiling statistics of racist incidents?
As I pointed out in my blog ‘Manipulating Antisemitism Statistics – the CST and CAA’ https://tinyurl.com/4yvuuu8t from 2017-2018 the CST recorded a 16% increase in anti-Semitic incidents at the same time as a 17% fall in violent incidents. How can this be? Because there was a 43% increase in social media anti-Semitism.
The CST has many ways to manipulate and massage statistics as Naomi points out and it also has a political incentive. It is a Zionist organisation and Zionist ideology rests on the belief that antisemitism is inherent in a non-Jewish society and the only answer to it is to move to a Jewish ghetto state.
It is perhaps stating the obvious that the CST and even more so the CAA, are not neutral organisations. Whilst the CST for a time excluded IHRA style ‘incidents’ that is no longer true now. It is firmly embedded into the host of Zionist organisations and should be treated as such.
There is only one measure of antisemitism that counts – the OED definition of hostility, prejudice or discrimination against Jews as Jews.
CST also doesn’t record instances of state racism against Jews for the simple reason that there isn’t any whereas examples of police and Home Office racism against Muslims abound.
