Miriam Margolyes Stands Up for Emma Watson

JVL Introduction

Harry Potter actor Emma Watson has won accolades from defenders of Palestinian rights and some brickbats from their opponents for a recent post on her official Instagram account showing support for Palestine.

In this article from Palestine Deep Dive, Omar Aziz reveals the growing support for Watson’s principled stand – one she shares with several other Potter stars.

As Aziz concludes, quoting a wise old wizard named Albus Dumbledore, “Dark and difficult times lie ahead. Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” With that in mind, who will be next to stand up and support Palestine?

  • I can only commend anyone who expresses their concerns over what is the truth of the situation for the Palestinian people.

  • Same here It has to be confronted regardless of threats. Good on the various actors and celebrities who have the courage to confront this outrage.

  • It gives us hope that young people are very much aware of what is going on, and more importantly that the oppression of palestinian people is totally unacceptable and inhumane.

  • Yes, I add my name to that. I’m heartened by those in the limelight using their voice even if it does mean forfeiting one of those royal honours and having the scorn of vile media.

  • This comes in the week when the long-running “discourse” about the goblins in the Harry Potter books and films fully entered the mainstream media, to the extent that previous more detailed and considered discussion of it is almost obliterated by their coverage of John Stewart etc. (You need to do a google search including -stewart).

But below are two articles, one on the goblins etc. and one – by a zionist who has also criticised the portrayal of the bankers – supporting JK Rowling’s important role in spreading the “antisemitism” smears on Corbyn. The author is clearly no friend of the left.

There is also a recent article after the John Stewart stuff in Forward which claims it is antisemitic to argue that when bankers are depicted as hooked-nosed that is an antisemitic portrayal. I don’t agree, but I didn’t hear that argument used about the notorious mural….

  • A lot of Jewish people, including some Israelis are horrified at what the “settlers” do (many settlers are meshuggeneh Americans) and appalled that the Israeli government supports and encourages these criminals.

  • I will ALWAYS support and will NEVER be swayed by the remarks of Zionists who presume that Palestinians are nothing more than EVIL, the EVIL are the actions of Israeli military and their government

  • In one of the articles Philip linked to, and referring to JK Rowling, it dissembles a Big Fat Falsehood, and one that I’ve seen repeated in numerous articles during Jeremy’s tenure as leader. Here’s the bit in question:

Why do Jews need an ally, you may ask. Well, one, we always need allies. And two, anti-Semitism has reached scary levels across the globe, but especially in Britain. This is mainly due to Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party, who have refused to denounce anti-Semitism in their ranks.

Needless to say, Jeremy denounced anti-semitism (within the party and society in general) on numerous occasions. And there is in fact a second falsehood in that passage – ie that A/S has reached scary levels across the globe, but especially in Britain (and it’s all down to Jeremy!).

Britain is way down the list of course.

  • One day soon the truth about accusations of antisemitism in the Labour Party will be revealed. When I first heard of the label antisemitism attached to the Labour Party and particularly to Jeremy I laughed. I was sure it was a sick joke. As a member for over 6 decades I have not heard a whisper of antisemitism in the Party. Jeremy Corbyn is the very last person in the UK to be racist of any stripe. Nowhere in the EHRC report does it say Jeremy is an antisemite or that the Labour Party is institutionally racist. Readers writing to comment in various publications still make the false accusation that Corbyn is named as antisemitic in the report and are allowed to get away with it. The truth, when it does appear will be a huge story of a carefully created plan ,brutally executed. People will see how right wing Labour members worked long and heard to assassinate Corbyn both personally and politically. I have seen nothing like it in my long life. Everyone who believes in democracy should be ashamed of that assassination. The involvement of a foreign power in the operation will be revealed. The involvement of the Jewish Labour Movement which was recreated purely for the purpose of getting rid of Corbyn and his radical policies. Every one of the people interviewed on the BBC documentary was a member, indeed an official of that organisation.
