UK Labour Party accused of discrimination over expulsion of Jewish members

JVL Introduction

Richard Sanders reports on JVL’s letter to the Labour Party, which says that Jews were regularly investigated “for speech which is not antisemitic but merely a legitimate expression of views criticising Israel or for commentary on the Party’s handling of and statements on allegations of antisemitism.”

It calls on the Party “to acknowledge that [it] is in breach of the Equality Act 2010 by discriminating unlawfully against its Jewish members and unlawfully harassing them”.

The letter was delivered on 22nd August and JVL still awaits a substantive reply.

UK Labour Party accused of discrimination over expulsion of Jewish members

Jewish members of the Labour Party are almost 13 times more likely to be expelled for supporting proscribed left-wing organisations than non-Jewish members, JVL claims

  • I’d like, once again, draw readers’ attention to one particular piece of sophistry the current Party factionalists are guilty of, which the above article does not make clear.
The article says that “Most were expelled for supporting Labour Against the Witch Hunt” – usually retrospectively. But I would guess there are others, like myself, who were not expelled for signing an Open Letter or being members of LAW, but for protesting at the slanderous description of LAW as being an antisemitic organisation.
Apparently you can be considered a supporter of an organisation with which you have had no dealings at all, if you protest at the way others have characterised it.
According to this logic someone who, for example, thinks that Hungary is not (yet) a fascist state and criticizes this view must be a supporter of that state.

  • I don’t agree with the statement ‘JVL was founded in 2017 to represent Jews who supported Jeremy Corbyn’. It was not only about one leader, but rather Jews who supported the Labour Party (at that time) and wanted to identify as a group who were critical of Israel and Zionism.

  • Socialists, in particular Jews, who remain in Labour evoke tragicomic analogies.

Tragic, amid their resemblance to people who suffer domestic violence, but stay.

Comic, like a football supporter who critiques a team’s quality, but still watches.

Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper flays the Tories over lengthy asylum cases.

But, her partner’s name in mind, she talked balls as long back as 2019 on anti-Jew hatred.

In a TV interview, Cooper declared the party acted too slow over antisemitism.

And she added that Jewish members who experienced antisemitism did not have to prove their claims.

This loses no irony for Andrew Feinstein, under investigation now for 22 months.

The report on JVL’s letter to the party emerges as Labour veers further right.

Starmer’s cabinet shuffle reinforces anti-Corbyn and pro-Israel apologists.

It strengthens pro-rich and anti-poor stances to which he and shadow chancellor Reeves cling.

Conservative unpopularity pretty much ensures a red Tory election victory.

Repeated Blairism that widened inequality on income could hold power for a decade.

With reactionaries in charge, leftists, not least Jewish ones, face more punishment.

Jews can keep their rose-tinted cards, or walk out with pride and fight Labour.

Many South Africans chose exile to help topple apartheid similar to Israel’s regime.

As a satirical atheist – thank God (sic) – I nonetheless cite the serenity prayer.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

  • This habit of ignoring anything that’s difficult for them to deal with, has been going on for over 2 years. I wrote to Starmer, telling him he was missing a golden opportunity to attack the Tories ongoing NHS policies. I sent him links with evidence, including videos of Dr Bob Gill giving solid evidence of what they were doing and why. He never replied, I copied it on his Twitter and Facebook Accounts, never a reply. I sent in a complaint to LP Headquarters and they replied saying it would go before a Committee of NEC members. Never heard another word. They are still getting away with this ignoring challenges and questions from members.

  • The media silence holds no mysteries.

Blair’s deal with Murdoch bought his titles’ backing in return for light touch regulation.

Akin to Brown’s soft curbs on the City that played their part in the 2008 banks’ collapse.

Starmer vows to protect fat cats have sold out business places at the party conference.

Broadcast and press bosses will not upset a Labour front bench poised for power.

Like the party’s majority rightist MPs, BBC reactionaries helped kill Corbyn’s premiership bid and continue to abandon his supporters.
