Treatment of Stephen Marks: Claim against Labour Party lodged with Oxford County Court

JVL Introduction

We are yet again asking our generous supporters to help us fund the costs of further action against the Labour Party. Here is the pre action letter sent by our lawyers on behalf of our expelled Jewish JVL member Stephen Marks, previously an elected member of the Party’s National Constitutional Committee.

The letter refers to breaches of the Equality Act following up the complaint of such breaches relating to Jewish Labour Party members sent in August. This letter is asking for an admission of liability, an apology for insinuating that he is antisemitic, and immediate reinstatement as a member of the Party – as well as basic and aggravated damages for such breaches of the Equality Act , and the costs of bringing his claim.

Here is the link to the Crowdfunder appeal.

  • Good luck, Stephen. Don’t let them get you down. I was active in my branch of Hampstead and Highgate CLP throughout the 1980s, tho’ I never stood for office. Eventually we got rid of the Tory MP.

  • Up until now, as far as I am aware, the Labour Party ignores even letters from Solicitors.
In my own case, there was never any response to the arguments I put forward; so Stephen’s experience is like so many others falsely accused. I wish him well in his case.
I decided I didn’t wish to be a member of an abusing organisation to which I paid subs, and resigned, rather that let the LP have the *pleasure* of expelling me without due process.
This hasn’t stopped a nasty right-wing Labour Councillor in Liverpool going public and claiming I was expelled.
Good Luck with the case, Stephen Marks.

  • Good luck for Stephen Marks to win:
    ●admission of liability.
●apology for alleging that he is antisemitic.
●damages for breaches of the Equality Act, besides the pain, suffering and humiliation caused, including the exacerbation of his medical condition, due to the stress.

But immediate reinstatement as a member of the party?

A party whose leader sheds crocodile tears for 20,000 Gaza deaths?

    Half among them children?

And who neither condemns Israel’s disproportionate carnage nor calls for immediate ceasefire?

    Hasn’t Stephen now suffered enough?

  • As Ken Loach said recently, ‘Democracy is dead in the Labour party.’ Starmer and his inner circle will do anything to gain power, losing the soul of Labour in the process. I saw and liked a tweet from Jackie Walker the other day saying she would vote Green and it helped me towards resolving the dilemma. Where I live it’s always been somewhat marginal, Lab or Tory. Right now my impression is Tories are likely to win again. What to do if the trad remedy is unappealing, ie Hold your nose and vote Lab? Suppose one really can’t? Tactics say ‘Lab’ conscience says ‘Green’. Oh dear! Solidarity with this very important legal case.
