Modi’s lesson from Israel: Demolish Muslim homes, erase their history
JVL Introduction
Somdeep Sen writes in Al Jazeera about the growing anti-Muslim violence in India under Narendra Modi.
The parallels with Israel are frightening. What were once isolated incidents are being fueled by ethno-nationalist hate rhetoric emanating from the heart of government.
A choice weapon is home demolitions of supposed illegally built home and businesses. But, as with Israel where it is only Palestinians who are targeted, so too in India it is Muslims who are victimised.
These are more than casual parallels. Modi has cosied up to Netanyahu in recent years and the Hindu right, says Sen, has been explicit in its aspiration to emulate Israel’s approach to Palestinians.
Just as the Palestinian contribution to the history and culture of the land they live in is being erased by Israel so too is the Islamic contribution to India’s rich past.

The Hindu far-right’s actions in Nuh, in India’s Haryana, echo Israel’s policies of trying to delete histories and legacies of the Palestinian people.

I have seen this, especially in Aurangabad and other cities, large zones of Muslim property being demolished for “Road widening”.
I believe that this article underscores why we must speak out against the blatant ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from (so far only) swathes of Palestine.
Many countries – especially the USA – are encouraging and even funding this process given their strong faith in End-of-Times Theology and belief that the return of Jesus Christ only needs a few “un-Christian” acts by Jews to take place in the Holy Land. (The smaller number of Jewish Zionists have their own reasons for wanting ancient Zion as a “Jewish state”).
