The Western Way of Genocide
The genocide in Gaza portends the emergence of a dystopian world where the industrialized violence of the Global North is used to sustain its hoarding of diminishing resources and wealth.

This is a powerful statement about the growing threat to the international rule of law, quoting many of my own most revered authors, and I agree fully with much of the grim picture of the future that it paints. But there are several glaring mistakes, made more than once, when he says or implies, that all Jews and all whites are racist, colonialist assassins. Both of which are blatantly racist and untrue. And at the same time, implying that no one who is from the global South and no one who is not white, is a racist or a mass murderer, or both, which are also, clearly, equally untrue.
I wonder why the contributor above asked for anonymity, and indeed why JVL editors agreed to the request? The comment is reminiscent of the ‘Not all men’ response to revelations of widespread rape and femicide. Chris Hedges has been talking about the current dynamic of genocide driven by superprofit and enabled by industrialisation . Of course there have been other genocides at past times and places and it is possible to envisage people of colour , women, Jews and other formerly oppressed groups carrying out mass murder. Not much imagination needed! If we are not Christians like Hedges we can’t cling to the hope of confession and redemption, so we may face an even longer struggle to overcome our species’ lethal propensities. But we can at least refrain from blaming the global majority who are at present on the receiving end.
