Haaretz decries the silencing of the Arab-Jewish party Hadash

JVL Introduction

This Haaretz editorial is bitterly critical of police attempts to prevent the Arab-Jewish party, Hadash, from holding a conference on “plans for political action against the continuation of the war and against the political persecution”.

Hadash calls for a ceasefire now and believes that Israel should be “a state of all its citizens”.

Having seen much silencing of criticism of the war by various means of harassment and arrest to date, attempts are now being made to restrict it further.

Police claim that speeches at a party conference may “endanger public welfare” is a concrete violation of freedom of expression.

As Haaretz points out that, such freedom is even more important in times of war.
