Shaima Dallali, former NUS President unfairly dismissed for antisemitism, has been vindicated, coming to an agreement with the NUS before the case reached an employment tribunal hearing.
As the Palestine Solidarity Campaign said at the time in her defence:
“This is not the first time a Muslim woman of colour has had her social media trawled, her internet presence scrutinised, and her ability to do her elected role obstructed by a media-stoked outrage that ends up conflating legitimate criticisms of Israel with antisemitism. Unfortunately for Ms. Dallali, her grave concerns over her safety have been completely side-lined.
It pointed out correctly that “rather than combatting the very real problem of antisemitism” the whole furore would instead “contribute to anti-Palestinian racism and the silencing of legitimate advocacy for Palestine”.
It is good to see Dallali vindicated at long last. We wish her well in getting on with her life freed from the witch-hunting atmosphere in which she has had to live for so long.
And continuing her support for Palestine!

Sadly ‘pro-Zionist beliefs’ are also protected. 50 years ago, if you’d tried to say that religion justified white western colonialism – whether it be in Africa, the Americas or the Middle-East – you’d have likely been treated like a member of the Flat Earth Society.
The definition of racism that came out of this period and which has been repeated by Benjamin Zephaniah and others – was that it applies to victims of the slavery and colonialism gravy train, who in various combinations have lost their homelands, original languages, family/social structures and cultures. This certainly applies to the Palestinians, so it would be hoped that one day we’d return to the old UN resolution 3379 definition of Zionism as ‘a form of racism’.
So, treating anti-Zionism as a protected ‘belief’ rather than a rationalistic/legalistic analysis of history and ethnic oppression, is a double-edged sword.
I have never heard about this before but having read that Ms.Dallali has gone through hell & back is yet another story of just how evil a philosophy can be & sadly Zionism has become a world wide philosophy because it has intertwined itself into Judaism & used it as emotional manipulation & blackmail in so many Universities, colleges & schools!
That manipulation was even used in the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, when a children’s display of their painted plates was demanded that they be removed for fear of upsetting Jewish people!!
The painted plates on exhibition were done by Palestinian children !
Yes they were removed!!!
Zionism appears to have used & abused the Holocaust & what hatred really does.
We should learn about history & the carnage, destruction & pointless deaths that hatred caused, & still causes!
Students are the future , students are meant to rise up against any injustice, wars, & Governments that are brutal.
I’m proud of them because we must, stand up against any tyranny, Genocide, greed, theft of peoples homes etc.
Religions all over the world have shown their dark side, there isn’t one that hasn’t dehumanised other people. Even Buddhists have shown a dreadful disregard of the Mayamar people which shocked me.
Having said that there are the Quakers who silently support anyone in need & appear to be non violent or righteous, I may be wrong but I’ve never heard of a Quaker uprising or Genocide by them!
I am very pleased to read that Ms.Dallali is free from wrongful accusations & the despicable threats which were & are unacceptable !
An apt comment I’ve read somewhere:- we expect students to study history, politics, economics, law, ethics and philosophy, but when they take their learning out on the road, it suddenly becomes unacceptable.
I can’t remember who said but.. very apt.
