Fire Brigades Union – Statement on Ukraine
JVL Introduction
JVL is pleased to post this statement from UK’s Fire Brigades Union on the War in Ukraine. As well as many important points about the UK government’s hypocrisy, the plight of refugees and a call for a ceasefire and for solidarity, their particular awareness of what those in the emergency services will be facing is poignant and heartfelt .

A great statement of international solidarity with the international working class. And that includes solidarity with all those voices shut down in the Labour Party. Let’s see more Unions following the example of the FBU.
I wish I was a Fire Brigade worker, instead of a 79 yr old woman !
What a great ,straightforward statement.
Really excellent statement
I agree wholeheartedly with this excellent statement.
I am shocked that we are at last speaking out, Internationalism is the key. Thank you FBU.
Fantastic Statement from the firebrigade
Superb statement defending working class people of all nationalities. Doubtless the sslime of the British press will attack the FBU.
Thanks Matt. Good to hear some sensible comments cutting through the noise of the warmongers.
Great statement. Totally agree.
Your point 5 is shameful; you describe a democratically elected government as the ‘Zelensky regime’ and then go on to suggest that the people of Ukraine should attempt to collaborate with an invading fascist army. Are you out of your minds? Such actions would be absolutely nothing to do with working-class solidarity and would play into the hands of the murderer Putin. Your naivete and lack of comprehension is staggering.
As an ex FBU officer and out of trade member it’s heartening to read the FBU statement, Internationalism is at the heart of our movement, fighting against the war mongering rhetoric. Fighting for a peaceful world is neither naive or ignorant, workers must stand for and with each other, firefighters are humanitarian workers, witnessing horrors inflicted through terrorism and wars , they are uniquely placed to oppose militarism and conflict, solidarity to all.
