We rely on institutions like the BBC and the EHRC being genuinely independent, having the strength and integrity to resist the political pressures to which they are inevitably subjected.
Here Newsweek reveals that the independence of the EHRC, which says it takes its impartiality “very seriously”, has been compromised
One of its commissioners, Pavita Cooper, is revealed as having made a donations to the Tory party which were not declared, in breach of its own rules.
Do her political leanings have any connexion with the fact that the EHRC decided “it would not be proportionate to initiate our own investigation” into allegations of Islamophobia in the Conservative Party?
Will Cooper resign? Will she be sacked?

Useful to know and perhaps it will help us to understand why the EHRC is perfectly comfortable in allowing the Tory party to investigate itself for Islamophobia
Almost all of the EHRC commissioners, who will have to sign off on the LP report are wealthy business people, who I should imagine are very happy with the status quo (or at least ante the Coronavirus crisis). There is no-one with any experience in anti-racist activity or involvement with the trades unions. The is also involved in the LP report an “investigations team” which seems to be anonymous, plus a couple of outside lawyers, Sarah Hannett of Matrix Law and Henrietta Hill QC.
I keep on having to ask the EHRC to publish its board minutes on its web site. Last July, I pointed out to them that the latest set on the site were from the previous January. The board meets every two months and should have had a further discussion on the LP on March 11th 2020, according to the published Jan 2020 minutes. The minutes of the March meeting would have been approved at the May 14th meeting and posted soon after. That was over six weeks ago. I’ve asked twice for them to be posted and received no response.
The January meeting also refers to a paper on the LP investigation, EHRC 87.05A . I presume this has been superseded by the subsequent meetings, but as it is the latest we know about and we are entitled to see it. You can email [email protected] to ask for the document. I expect they will delay by treating it as an FOI request, as they did with me, but there is no harm in asking.
In the above piece, Basit Mahmood, the author, says that the EHRC is investigating the Labour Party for alleged anti-semitism, which is not the case, and it is investigating the Labour Party’s handling of A/S cases. That said, you can be 150% certain that EHRC staff and management are well aware that the attack on Ken Livingstone, for example, was completely conjured up out of thin air and bogus AND that he was alluding, in passing, to an historical fact (as do all those who feigned to condemn and vilify him).
In other words, they know that it was all concocted and contrived and, as such, a gargantuan falsehood and smear, and if the EHRC was even remotely concerned aout human rights, then they would have been investigating all the vexatious claims and all those who played along with them. And the fact that they’re NOT tells you all you need to know about THEM!
The character assassination of good, decent caring people and being falsely labeled as anti-semites means absolutely nothing to them!
Par for the course. To have been expected.
