How the EHRC failed British Muslims
JVL Introduction
Jeremy Corbyn recently claimed that the EHRC had now “become part of the government machine” – protecting the government rather than those subject to discrimination.
In this article published by Middle East Eye, journalists John Holmwood and Peter Oborne examine this claim.
Their conclusion:
“The truth is that on black and Muslim issues the EHRC has served the government’s agenda. It has repeatedly failed to display the teeth or the will to tackle the key issues that ought to have been on its agenda for the past decade.”

an excellent article. The use of the EHRC as a mean of attacking the Labour Left and Corbyn via the allegation of ‘antisemitism’ via 2 Israeli funded or supported organisations demonstrates that when it comes to antiracism the EHRC is completely useless.
Its silence over the Windrush scandal in particular has been deafening
a very unbalanced organisation
Sadly, with great disappointment and annoyance the EHRC has failed to live up to the high expectations and hopes of those of us who were active in combatting prejudice over the years. I may well be the last surviving member of the lobby group, active from the early 1960’s, who with members of the Labour Party, brought about the1965 Race Relations Act. Whilst it was not perfect, the Labour Party must take the credit for that foundation and also the many improvements in legislation which now embraces wider discrimination.
We clearly have reached pivotal times, in which false accusation and the misuse of legal and quasi-legal processes must be countered robustly. The EHRC now stands in the midst of the controversies and at some time will need to be brought to account.
Thank you for publishing this article. For a very long time I have felt EHRC was ineffective. To have it spelt out is the first step to trying to put pressure on the EHRC to rectify their lack lustre work.
Is the inner core of the Tory government. trying to close down any meaningful action on racism? Has the EHRC been sidelined by the new misnamed “Race Inequality Commission”? Boris Johnson and Dominic Cummings are keen to derail the BLM movement by rewarding their pals with a leading role in this body. Like the populists they deny institutionalised racism and prattle on about a “victim culture”.
