Black people have long recognised the connections between their struggles against racism and the legacy of colonialism and the struggle of the Palestinian people for liberation, for justice, equality, freedom and dignity. Here a short summary of the long history of Black solidarity with Palestine – and, indeed, Palestinian solidarity with Black people especially in the USA. This solidarity is seen as a threat to the status quo and US politicians have tried – and mostly failed – to undermine it.

This is very noticeable today, on the street. The drivers who hoot support for Palestine and the pedestrians who give thumbs up to placards, as well of course as the great turnout on ceasefire marches – so often are Black people of all different backgrounds and ages. It’s a gut connection. I have signed up to The Long Wave, thank you for telling us about it.
