A Conversation and a review with Ben Moser on Anti-Zionism
JVL Introduction
Below we publish a recording of an interview with Ben Moser, who wrote “Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History” as well as a review from the Guardian which included these words in their title…”the deep roots of a contemporary movement” . It seems that, just possibly, the Guardian is beginning to realise that not all Jews think the same. This was not our experience during the Corbyn years! Below The Guardian review is a transcript of the recording for those who prefer to read than to listen.
The discussion was organised by Greens for Palestine and is makes for fascinating listening (or reading). Moser’s book is not a systematic study of anti-Zionism throughout history but contains a number of stories about Jews who opposed – or came to oppose – Zionism from the early days until the present. The discussion focuses a lot on the reality of Zionism as experienced today in occupied Palestine and also the propaganda most of us are brought up, especially but not only for Jews. He describes his becoming aware of the problems with Zionism and sees them as clear from the earliest days. He describes, for example, what he learned from reading Herzl’s seminal “Altneuerland”. Benjamin Moser has won several awards for his writing including a Pullitzer Prize in 2020.
The interview was conducted by Kate Youssouf, human rights activist, criminal defense lawyer, and member of the International Committee of the Green Party of England and Wales.
