Resisting Zionism’s Erasure: Molly Crabapple and the Jewish Bund
JVL Introduction
H/t Robert Jones
Molly Crabapple’s account of an 11-year journey in search of the past, Here Where We Live Is Our Country, will be published next week by One World/Random House.
She describes how she was set on her journey by coming across a watercolour by her great-grandfather, the post-Impressionist artist Sam Rothbort, captioned “Itka the Bundist, Breaking Windows” (incorporated in the postcard image below).
It led her on a long voyage discovering what Bundism was, and to the imminent publication of her latest book, an epic history of the Jewish movement that refused Zionism’s pressure to colonize and subjugate another people.
“The more I dug into the Bundist past, the more I realized it was not past at all. It was, rather, a candle to illuminate the tumultuous present.
The Foreword to it, published in The Key – a new online publication dedicating to covering Palestine as the story at the heart of the modern world – is reposted below.
Molly Crabapple will be on tour to launch the book, mainly in the US, but with two gigs in London at the end of May/early June. Book early as places are limited. Her website is here.

Well done Molly Crabapple, just what everyone needs to know right now.
Eastern European Jews this, Eastern European Jews that. The Russian Empire bund excluded Georgian, Azeri and Armenian Jews.
Had your Puerto Rican father been Jewish they would have excluded him too.
An interesting group of anti-racists here.
