Perilous Pregnancy and rising miscarriage in Gaza

“Across Gaza, pregnancy has become increasingly perilous as women endure hunger, repeated displacement, bombardment, and the collapse of much of the healthcare system.” Miscarriages are rising rapidly especially for women living in overcrowded tents who lack regular access to nutrition, clean water, the health care they would have had before. The number of miscarriages for the first six months of 2026 is much higher even than for the last six months of 2025, for some of which the war was raging. In the first six months of 2026 – before the intense summer heat – 4,000 miscarriages have been recorded compared with 1,200 from July to December 2025.  There has also been a decline in births by 3.2% comparing the same two periods.

The “ceasefire” may have reduced the number of bombardments but it has not eliminated them; on top of the trauma and losses women in Gaza have endured, there may be more displacement, ongoing fear all to be endured in terrible and precarious living conditions
