Strangling the West Bank while bombing Iran
JVL Introduction
We must continue to protest about what is happening to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and in Jerusalem. This is an account of just some of the difficulties faced by Palestinians simply trying to live an ordinary life in the West Bank. Things have been difficult since Israel’s military occupation since 1967, worsening as more and more settlements have been built, worsening again with the apartheid wall that not only separates communities but cuts many off from their own land. Things worsened even more after October 7th 2023 and now have worsened again with near total lockdown, which in Gaza means no-one gets in or out and nowhere near enough food and medicine and in the West Bank it means everything from long and unpredictable delays at checkpoints to murder by Jewish Israeli settlers.
“Every road blocked and every meter of land taken is definitive, and it only seems to get worse every day.” If such measures drew little reaction “when the whole world was watching” at the height of the Gaza genocide, Israel is now likely to accelerate these policies even further, while global attention is focused on a major regional war.”

Israel ‘strangles’ West Bank amid war on Iran
With the world’s attention focused on the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, Israel is making conditions unlivable for Palestinians in the West Bank. Residents say that every Israeli measure to “strangle” Palestinians feels like it’s “irreversible.”

The Oslo Accords were a mistake and the Palestinian leadership, who agreed to them with good intentions, need to accept that. People often try to blame Palestinians, claiming that if only they agreed to this that and the other there would be peace, but they never tell us what the content of these deals and treaties are, and the Palestinian leadership ends up backed into a corner, where they’re damned if they do and dont – sign it and see land get grabbed left and right but you might not get bombed or imprisoned, or don’t sign it but get punished. Not much of a choice. The Accords are to be rejected. Palestinians are under attack so need to be able to defend themselves, and there needs to be reconciliation between factions with the aim of rebuilding national unity.
