This thoughtful and worrying essay focuses mainly on the USA but similar excesses are being shown in many countries, most obviously in Germany and certainly in the UK where clampdown on protest and action in support of Palestine has been a feature of the previous and the current governments.
The article outlines some of the dangers for us all as international law is violated again and again without consequence. It cites Colin Jones writing in the New Yorker that the US military “is deeply concerned about being hobbled by international law when prosecuting a future war against a major power such as China – so much so that Israel’s “loosened restraints on civilian casualties” usefully shifts the goalposts for future US conduct.”
The terrible suffering of the Palestinian people and how “normal” this has become is why the genocide has to stop but there are also other reasons that the complicity is hugely worrying for the future.
