In defence of inalienable rights

The Jewish Socialists’ Group has released the statement below in the wake of the Government’s proscription of Palestine Action. JSG speaks for us and for many others who reject the efforts of self-appointed “leaders” attempting to “silence, co-opt or threaten Jewish people and groups who refuse to conform to their authorised version of Jewish opinion.

“They do not represent our diverse, vibrant and conflicted community, and we will not be used by them as a weapon to attack supporters of the Palestinian people.”

The JSG statement foregrounds some important truths including: That our rights to free speech and non-violent protest are hard won and must be defended, and that “The term ‘terrorism’ has always been used by states against non-state groups that pose an effective challenge to their power and authority.”

As we said in our own statement on July 2, Proscribing Palestine Action is an Outrage!
