Israel’s blind arrogance does not even serve Israelis

JVL Introduction

Written by an Iranian born Israeli citizen, this heartfelt article highlights the dangers of an illusion under which most Israelis have been living; the illusion that the military will always triumph and protect the Israelis, regardless of the premise on which they are fighting.  As Ms Noy says:  “… for nearly 80 years, these so-called “victories” have proven Pyrrhic. Each one digs Israel into a deeper pit of isolation, threat, and hatred. The Nakba of 1948 created the refugee crisis that…laid the foundation for the apartheid regime. The 1967 victory gave rise to an occupation that continues to fuel Palestinian resistance. The war of October 2023 spiraled into a genocide that turned Israel into a global pariah.”

Far too many Israel’s supporters, even with this extreme right wing, expansionist government, continue to see that country as a victim (albeit a powerful one) that has “the right to defend itself” – even when it is doing the attacking.

The double standards cause outrage for anyone who is not blinded by that perspective.  Some Israelis are experiencing bombing from ballistic missiles and some have lost their lives, been injured or seen their homes destroyed.  On a human level this is dreadful; but after 20 months of watching people in Gaza experience much worse, with supposedly serious commentators saying on public TV that they should all be killed, it is hard to summon up the sympathy that those individual families deserve.

There is no military solution to the conflict(s).

Israel’s greatest threat isn’t Iran or Hamas, but its own hubris

A people whose entire existence depends solely on military might is destined to end up in the darkest corners of destruction, and ultimately, in defeat.
