Speaking for Palestine – risk deportation in the US
JVL Introduction
There are so many terrible stories coming from the Trump led USA about massive sackings of federal employees, ending of valuable service and also of deportations, including of people who have organised pro Palestinian protests. Often of people with the right to be in the US, sometimes by mistake (that somehow cannot be reversed) and some are sent to the notorious and terrible maximum security prison in El Salvador where everyone is in for life! There is ample evidence that this was done without due process.
In the “land of the free and the home of the brave” imprisonment and cowardice seem to be front and centre. But there is a fightback. Today (April 19th) rdemomstrations and rallies against what Trump is doing are taking place across the USA ; this has heppened before, especially on April 5th. However, There have been “41 new anti-protest bills that have been introduced in 22 states in 2025 thus far, according to the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) tracker” which may hamper some protests but there is a determined and growing movement .
One aspect of concern is the clampdown on support for Palestine and the attacks on universities; Trump says it is to stamp out antisemitism but this is nonsense and an extreme outcome from the error of conflating anti-Zionism (or even anti the actions of the Israeli government) with antisemitism. This is one of the particularly egregious cases followed by the response from Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP – [pictured responding above).

I didn’t hear the American and African-American journalists on the radio report about the Jewish Voice for Peace’s perspective showing solidarity with the Palestinian college students. Thank you for your courage to report this very important news story.
