Cornel West is the latest in a line of academics denied tenure at a US university.
It has now been covered in the New York Times but, as Philp Weiss reports, the Palestinian angle, which West believes was decisive, has been relegated to the final paragraphs.
For West the very idea of expressing solidarity with Palestinians under occupation is somehow suspect.
Weiss explores how this has worked in practice in the West case and raises the delicate issue of university funding in the States where large donors are generally part of a pro-Israel elite.
