The Missing Peace in the Abraham Accords

JVL Introduction

Daniel Levy shows in this analysis that the recent deals between Israel and the UAE and Bahrein offer no hope for peace: the UAE and Bahrain have never been at war with Israel, or fired a shot against Israel.

These Accords, Levy argues, are best understood as reflecting and formalizing rather than changing realities in the region.

If not about peace, what are they about? Simply about Trump parading a foreign policy “achievement” 50 days before an election…

For the Democrats to go along with the charade, in the interests of Israeli exceptionalism, is as Daniel Levy say, more than regrettable. It serves neither American national-security interests nor any genuine Middle East peace-making.
