With Panorama’s hatchet job on Labour antisemitism, BBC has become pro-Tory media

JVL Introduction

Jonathan Cook looks at the Panorama programme and provides a forensic dissection of it. He finds it difficult to describe it as other than a hatchet job and points, among its numerous defects and distortions, to the astonishing absence of countervailing voices in support of Corbyn.

With Panorama's hatchet job on Labour antisemitism, BBC has become pro-Tory media

Score-settling may make for lively TV, but it is execrable journalism

  • Very interesting article! I am a Jewish Labour Party member and a British citizen living in Spain, and also a member of Labour International. I recently discovered your website. I agree with practically everything I have read on your website. As a simple summary of my views: anti-Zionism is definitely not the same as antisemitism. Keep up your good work.

  • Absolutely brilliant devastating analysis and dissection of the coordinated systematic plan and execution to destroy Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party with the help of the terrible traitors. #WatsonMustGo

  • What does the traitor Watson think he is bloody doing? Knifing Corbyn in the back and trying to stop a Labour government. Is that what he thinks the deputy is for? Sack the dud and replace him before he does any more bloody damage and carnage.

  • I have huge respect for Jonathan Cook, having met him and his wife in Nazareth some years ago.
However, I have one small criticism of the piece he has written above.
He refers to ‘British Jews panicking at the prospect of Corbyn reaching power.’
I think he is generalisng too much when he writes this.
Some British Jews may be hysterical under the onslaught of a mass media endlessly repeating there is a “problem” of antisemitism in the Labour Party.
However, not all Jews living in Britain support any such narrative.
The members of Jewish Voice for Labour do not come into that category.
What would be useful would be for someone – JVL? – to commission a neutral poll of British Jews, asking them if they believe Jeremy Corbyn and/or the Labour Party are antisemitic in nature? – and then publishing the results.
That way, we would all have a better understanding as to what confronts us.
On the queston of Tom Watson, why not get a sympathetic CLP to put forward a motion to the next annual party conference, calling for the post of deputy leader to be abolished?

  • What a relief it was to read this article. The problem is, though, that very few other people – Jewish or not – will be reading it, because JVL does not have any power to control the BBC, and the BBC is not going to give power away to groups that would undermine its veritable hegemony. It makes me want to cry. I don’t know how we can change this collection of poisonous narratives.
