Angel writes that
- [the crisis] forced me to look at my own fatigue not just as coincident with the pandemic, but as one item on a vast list of comorbid symptoms of life under capitalism.
- One thing this catastrophe is teaching us is that, in a pandemic, no one is well—and that thus far the rules of the pandemic are simply the rules of capitalism, accelerated.
- Already, the crisis has magnified some of the most horrifying features of society as we know it…while also offering glimmers of the better society it could become…

Oh, I hope so much that there will be no more business as usual, but I fear that once the crisis is over – and it will be, one day, though how many days that means we do not know – we don’t just revert to the previous hegemonic assumptions. I know that after World War Two, even though Churchill was widely held in high regard as a war leader, it didn’t stop his rejection as a peace time PM. But I cannot see Labour picking up the baton and making the connections which need to be made between a stripped out state and our inability to save all of us who will have needed to be saved.
Time indeed for what author Scott Ferguson has called “Declarations of Dependence”.
