The trauma of survival for Jews and Palestinians
JVL Introduction
The genocide of the Jews was 80 years before this, current, genocide of the Palestinians. Here UK based Palestinian journalist, Yara Eid and 87 year old survivor of the Nazi Holocaust, Stephen Kapos meet. Below the short article is a 2 hour video of their conversation at a recent meeting held at London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
Stephen is known for his solidarity with the Palestinians and has been present on all the London marches since October 2023, often speaking there. One important theme is anger at the misuse of the Nazi Holocaust to attempt to justify another genocide.
Yara is banned from going to Israel and, therefore, to her home in Palestine as well. She experienced the “war” of 2014 in a refugee camp in Gaza and she saw things no one should ever see and is still traumatised by that. She feels that, while it is understandable that people ask her if she hates Jews, she believes that Jews and Palestinians have much in common despite the different times in history and the different circumstances.
