The Real Purpose of Trump’s Executive Order on Anti-Semitism

JVL Introduction

President Trump has signed an Executive Order  to suppress “antisemitism” on campuses. It is one which punishes valid criticisms of Israel, infringes  free speech  and labels Judaism as a nationality.

It also endorses the IHRA so-called working definition of antisemitism – despite the full-throated opposition of Kenneth Stern, the person who originally drafted it.

As Masha Gessen, a staff writer at The New Yorker, makes clear this has nothing to do with wanting to suppress antisemitism – coming as it does from a pro-Israel antisemitic President who recently gave a speech overflowing with antisemitic stereotypes: about Jews and greed, Jews and money, Jews as ruthless wheeler-dealers.

  • Of course, it’s significant that a piece directly challenging Trump’s antisemitism and his attempt to silence activism is support of the Palestinian people appears in a journal such as the New Yorker. However, it is worth pointing out the the Anti-Defamation League, which the author quotes, has been rabidly pro-Zionist since as long as i can remember and supports Trump’s move.

This is pointed out in the Guardian of all places, where a criticism of the IHRA definition and its role in curbing free speech has finally been aired. I won’t hold my breath waiting for its opinion editors to join the dots….
