The demand from Hindu ‘community leaders’ that you support their policies or not be a proper Hindu is disturbingly familiar to Jews who oppose the demands from the Board of Deputies and others not to oppose Israeli actions or be denounced as fake Jews.
Mike Cushman rightly points out the undesirability of a theocratic definition of a nation. It never ends well.
So glad that you have reported this BJP campaign which claims to have reached every temple in the UK. Here in India, the Times (of India) makes it clear that the BJP’s overseas branches are also targeting six Indian-origin Labour MPs for the crime of speaking out however mildly about human rights abuses in Kashmir. This will have a severely intimidating effect. As a JVL member I find the situation familiar – and very disturbing.
Interesting that the Charity Commission quite rightly rebuked the National Council of Hindu Temples for abusing its charitable status, but repeatedly fails to act against the so-called Campaign Against anti-Semitism for its far more virulent anti-Labour bias. When will this organisation finally lose its charitable status?
