Statement on the German government’s defunding of Zochrot

JVL Introduction

We post below a short response from the Israeli organisation Zochrot (Remembrance) to the German government’s decision to withdraw financial support from it.

That is because it puts the Palestinian right of return at the centre of its work.

The German government is willing to support revisiting the past, but not if it leads to political demands in the present.

Zochrot is unbowed. It has always put the Nakba at the centre of its political practice, insisting that commemorating that tragedy mean nothing without a recognition of the Palestinian right of return.

The short statement below spells out why this is the case.

You can learn more about Zochrot’s work here.

So the German government thinks it can atone for Nazi Lebensraum by supporting Zionist Ethnic Cleansing ?
Do German politicians understand how utterly ridiculous this makes Germany look ?

  • The most ‘generous’ thing that could be said of the German Government is that it is extremely naive. But, in order for us to believe this it requires an even greater naivety on our part. No government can be this blind!
