Starmer’s recognition of Palestine
JVL Introduction
This article below complements that by Avi Shlaim, UK Recognising Palestine – too little and a century late.
Shlaim’s article tracks British complicity in dispossession and war over more than a century since the Balfour Declaration.
David Keys spells out a comprehensive list of demands that can and should be made by the British government on Israel if its recognition is to anything other than an act of great hypocrisy.

Starmer’s recognition of Palestine
Starmer’s recognition of Palestine: A positive step forward that, without tough action to restrain Israel, could sadly become an act of hypocrisy

Window-dressing, whilst the Zionists exterminate Palestinians, with the active participation of Starmer, the British State and arms firms. This “recognition” is nothing but a “cloak” under which Zionists carry on the genocide. Starmer is a duplicitous liar, and an active participant in war crimes against Palestine. Palestinians don’t need patronage from participants in genocide like Starmer and other “Western” leaders. It needs all of its land back, the dismantling of the Zionist entity, and the likes of Starmer stand trial at The Hague.
Effective sanctions must now be enforced otherwise the 2 state solution is doomed .
David refers to the one state solution being a sort of greater Israel. I understand why he says that, and appreciate the context in which he was writing, but it is misleading. The one state solution is a decades-long serious and honourable anti-Zionist position. The two states solution is no solution at all. It is a dead duck in the water. We have seen, over the last 20 years with the example of Gaza, that Israel did not accept an independent Gaza. It had to control it, occupy it, lay siege to it. Under the two state solution, a Palestinian state would not be allowed to defend itself. Israel would make sure of that. For a two state solution to work, and for Jews and Arabs to be able to live together in peace, Israel would have to become non-Zionist. The only sustainable solution is one state, where Jews and Arabs live equally and freely together. Let’s work for mutual liberation in a democratic, secular Israel/Palestine.
What do people think of David Millers analysis of the ‘Your Party’ drama in his interview on the Decline and Fall show ?
Driven by internal forces: LP members and growing testicles by PLP. However welcome this is, it is delivered by KS at his most pompous and still basically Israeli-friendly. The UK still exports vital parts of F-13s which Israel bombs the hell out of Gaza and occasionally the West Bank. The UK nor any other country has taken even the first faltering steps towards actions which have been taken against other genocidal states in killings on much lower levels and for far, far longer. The ‘concrete’ actions trumpeted months ago turned out be reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete-style concrete (RAAC), but even that not yet (what’s his favoured word?), delivered.
Highly valuable to bring together this list of demands in one place — I have shared as widely as possible.
Don’t mistake symbolism for substance. Keir Starmer now recognising Palestine as a state is just glossing over a genocide.
This is the same man with deep ties to Israel, funded by its lobby, who backed every vote arming Tel Aviv. He won’t stray the course.
Recognition without sanctions, reparations, or an end to arms sales is just PR — a moral mask for continued complicity.
The illegal Zionist colonies in Occupied Palestine must be handed over intact to Palestinians in compensation for the wanton destruction of Palestinian homes and because of their illegality. Israel can resettle the Zionist occupants within the Green Line in Israel proper, keeping communities together as they please.
